These include heated and cooled seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Car, a panoramic sunroof, and a host of high end safety assists such as automated emergency braking. Even though it’s limited on the top SX trim, a rowdy turbocharged four-cylinder makes the Sportage downright speedy. A 181-hp inline-four provides sufficient push on lower decreases. Both engines mate to a six-speed programmed transmitting with front- or awd.
The 2018 Kia Sportage stands pat with its unmistakable front-end styling and steadfast powertrain duo for 2018. Instead of changing those, Kia has expanded some of its lively safety features to lower limits, upgraded several standard features, and reshuffled the contents of option packages. These kinds of minor changes mean slightly boosted base prices. The entry-level LX is up $300, the EX costs $600 more, and the premier SX adds hundred buck.
2018 Kia Sportage Specifications
The Sportage lineup has two engines: a 2. 4-liter inline-four and a turbocharged 2. 0-liter inline-four. Both rely over a six-speed automated transmission, and they’re available in front- or 4wheel drive. The 2. 4-liter makes 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of rpm; the turbocharged 2. 0-liter is exclusive to the SX trim and produces 240 horsepower (237 with all-wheel drive) and 260 lb-ft of torque. We found few faults with the transmission, which shifted well and was rarely caught off guard by sudden requests for further power. The rowdy turbocharged mill bags plenty of passing power and proved its prominence at quality track: Our front-drive SX sprinted to 60 mph in 6th. 7 seconds, beating the competition. While it’s fast, it’s also very expensive. The more inexpensive 2. 4-liter, on the other hand, is unrefined and a snoozer when it comes to performance. Is actually not as slow as a Nissan Rogue, but we could do without its buzzing under hard acceleration.
Towing more than a tiny U-Haul trailer with the Sportage is out of the question. Its maximum tow rating of 2000 pounds is below average in this class, and it’s not half as much as the most muscular alternative. If most likely enthusiastic about pulling a little camper, for instance , check away the Ford Escape and also the Jeep Cherokee.
2018 Kia Sportage Exterior
Dimensionally, the 2018 Kia Sportage is shorter overall and lower than the key competition, but not by much. Its 6. 8 inches of ground clearance make it less capable 4×4 than its rivals, all of which have at least an one-inch advantage. Then again, for most crossover drivers, “off-road” means the mall parking great deal, so this shouldn’t be a concern.
The Sportage’s front side end is its most visually polarizing feature. Coming from the sides and the back, however, we find it handsome and well proportioned. A stubby nose sports Kia’s signature billet grille. Arachnid-esque quad LED foglamps, chrome trim, and a faux skid plate are flaunted solely on the SX. We prefer the clean look of the EX trim, which better suits the 2018 Kia Sportage on the other hand sleek styling.
Roof bed rails and heated mirrors are standard on the FORMER MATE and SX trims; they’re optional on the SORENTO LX. Premium features like a breathtaking sunroof, power-folding mirrors, and a height-adjustable power liftgate are optional on the EX and standard on the top model. Unique to the SX are chrome dual exhaust tips, adaptive high-intensity-discharge headlights, and satin-chrome trim pieces. One of a kind to all-wheel-drive models is a revised front end that has a steeper angle at the bottom level of the leading bumper cover to improve off-road clearance. Seven exterior colors are available on every model; our favorites are Excitable Red and Burnished Copper.
2018 Kia Sportage Interior
The base LX has upgraded cloth seating, with fabric that Kia says will avoid stains better and is better to clean. The LX Popular package adds an air ionizer and fully computerized climate control. The EX interior has standard piano-black trim. The EX Technology package includes all-new heated rear seats. The SX adds a standard electric parking brake with an auto-hold feature.
Kia designers appear to have applied the “less is more” philosophy inside the “2018 Kia Sportage”. The styling is handsomely restrained; the dash and doors are covered with classy soft-touch materials, and piano-black trim pieces spiff up the cabin, but be aware that they smudge easily. The center stack is curved toward the driver, positioning the controls within easy reach. The shifter rests at a comfortable elevation and distance, and the flat-bottom steering wheel in our SX model looked and felt upscale, adding racy inspiration.
2018 Kia Sportage Rates
The mid-level EX trim combines an affordable price with plenty of fancy features. Starting at $27, 195, the EX is merely a couple of thousand dollars more than the base LX (which starts at $24, 395 for 2018), but it includes extra tech and upgraded interior appointments. While the SX Turbo provides excellent performance and an extended set of luxury accoutrements, those upgrades come with poorer gas efficiency and aren’t worth the $6500 premium. We stand behind the better value provided by the EX’s standard installment payments on your 4-liter inline-four and 2wd (front), which are more than sufficient for the majority of driving situations. Those who want the bad-weather confidence of all-wheel drive can add it to the 2018 Kia Sportage for $1,5k. Beyond the aforementioned standard features, the EX also includes:
- 7. 0-inch UVO3 touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Automobile
- Blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic notify
- 10-way power-adjustable driver’s chair
- Leather-trimmed interior
- Heated front seats
