2017 Lexus IS Review, Specs and Design

2017 Lexus IS

Just be yourself; that’s what’s awesome. The 2017 Lexus IS tests that theory with statement-making styling and recognized dynamics. A fierce face and sculpted sheetmetal are supported by refined road manners and athletic techniques. An optional F Sport bundle offers a tuned suspension system and exclusive bodywork. Motors are dependant on lean: The IS200t (a.k.a. the IS Turbo) sporting activities a 241-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four; a 3.5-liter V-6 has 255 horses in the IS300 and 306 in the IS350. Electricity transfers via a six- or eight-speed programmed transmission to rear end- or all-wheel drive. Although vibrant looks and a capable chassis are highlights, the IS suffers from subpar infotainment, below-average petrol current economic climate, and mediocre acceleration.

The IS features restyled front side and rear ends, several interior revisions, and a slew of standard dynamic safe practices features. Its face wears a more dramatic spindle grille, new headlights, bigger air intakes, and a sculpted hood. The inside has modified steering-wheel controls and much more color options, among other slight changes. All models have Lexus Safe practices System+ with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and more. Rounding out the 2017 improvements are standard 18-in . wheels on the IS350, an available 10.3-in . infotainment screen, and two new paint colors–Caviar and Nightfall Mica.

Powertrain pairings are predetermined on the “2017 Lexus IS”. There’s a turbocharged inline-four, two types of 1 V-6, and a six- or eight-speed programmed transmission. Unfortunately, even the most dynamic engine feels gradual when compared with less powerful rivals–some which, unlike the Lexus, also give you a manual transmission.

Engine assignments pairs specifically with an eight-speed computerized transmission and rear-wheel drive. The IS300 has a 3.5-liter V-6 producing 255 horses and 236 lb-ft funneled by way of a six-speed automated and all-wheel drive. Over the IS350, that same V-6 is tuned to make 306 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. It comes with an eight-speed programmed and standard rear-wheel drive; all-wheel-drive editions use the six-speed intelligent.

The turbo four changed the ageing 2.5-liter V-6 in 2016, changing the IS’s moniker from 250 to 200t. Although it has more vitality, the four-cylinder remains outmatched by quicker competitors and produces an irritating engine noises with heavy throttle applications. The eight-speed automatic operates without fuss until immediate shifts are essential; there’s an all too noteworthy delay when downshifting for a forward. We haven’t examined an IS300 recently, but we choose the V-6 in the IS350. Presenting the eight-speed gearbox, our rear-drive test car responded immediately to throttle inputs and sounded wonderful. We only wish which it accelerated quicker and the transmission had increased power when asked.

2017 Lexus IS Exterior

Toeing the range between exaggeration and distinction, the 2017 Lexus IS exterior definitely makes a styling assertion. Its sweeping spindle grille, dramatic headlights, and sinewy body lines are unmistakably Lexus. While its design will overwhelm introverts, the IS needs to be recognized.

Every IS features a power sunroof, unaggressive entry, and LED headlights with accents that are curiously similar to the Nike Swoosh. In the 10 available external colors, Redline Red and Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0 are the only two that sketch attention; the second option can be an F Sport exclusive for an extra $595. Deciding on the F Sport package also gives unique leading and rear ends and special 18-inches wheels.

While materials are high quality and an optional interactive tool -panel is bad-ass, the dashboard design appears generations old, and rivals have significantly more rear-seat legroom.

Front-seat individuals will appreciate the cozy, supportive seats with least two more in . of legroom weighed against rivals. That space is sacrificed in the back seat where the 2017 Lexus IS has about three inches less.

The soft-touch floors, lightweight aluminum accents, and airtight -panel gaps inside the IS showcase Lexus refinement. Too bad a discombobulated dash and several controls including the luxury cruise lever and dynamic safety switches are ported over from smaller Toyota products. The standard dual-zone weather control features touch handles that are cool to make use of in theory but inconsistent in practice. The tyre feels appropriately solid, and the aluminium paddle shifters are well sized. F Sport models have an awesome digital gauge cluster. Ornamented by fuel-level and engine-temp readouts, the round display includes a tachometer, speedometer, gear selection, drive method, and other information.

2017 Lexus IS Prices

It’s a reasonable choice that stocks standard features with its better siblings; however, it does not have the impetus we crave. Same for the IS300 that starts off at $41,195. It offers standard all-wheel drive but an underpowered V-6. That leaves the rear-drive IS350 and its own $42,365 bottom part price; all-wheel drive adds $2165. The F Sport package deal is on all models at differing costs–it’s $3155 on the all-wheel-drive IS350. Along with an altered appearance, it includes:

  • Heated and cooled, bolstered, ability front seats
  • Interactive digital tool cluster
  • F Sport suspension tuning
  • Adaptive dampers (IS350 only)

For only $2555 more than the IS200t F Sport, we equipped a rear-drive IS350 F Sport for $45,520. Weighed against similarly equipped top rivals, that’s above average. However, the IS350 F Sport boasts standard features that could put most challengers’ costs on par with or above its price point.
